Newland Hall Wedding Photography - Lizzie & Billy
Lizzie and Billy’s wedding at Newland Hall was one of those genuinely joyful days where everything felt personal, relaxed, and full of heart. From bridal prep through to golden hour portraits, I had the privilege of photographing every moment. With Newland Hall soon closing as a wedding venue, it felt especially meaningful to be there capturing one of its final celebrations.
Getting Ready at Newland Hall
I arrived early in the day and stepped right into the buzz of the bridal suite. Lizzie was surrounded by her bridesmaids, and the energy in the room was light, happy, and full of excitement. Her baby son was also there, bringing even more warmth to the morning
After getting into her gown, Lizzie did a first look with her bridesmaids and her mum. The reactions were beautiful. Her dress was classic and elegant, featuring beaded detailing across the bodice and a flowing train that draped gracefully to the floor. It struck a perfect balance between simplicity and softness, with a silhouette that looked timeless on her.
Shortly after, I photographed Billy and the groomsmen getting ready nearby. These pre-ceremony moments are always great for capturing the build-up to the day and telling both sides of the story.
The Ceremony and Confetti
The ceremony was full of emotion, shared glances, and a few happy tears. Afterward, guests stepped outside for the confetti tunnel and group portraits. The space around Newland Hall’s lawn and garden offers a lovely flow from ceremony to reception.
Portraits Around the Grounds
Newland Hall is one of those venues with endless options for portraits. We explored the front of the property with the manor house as a backdrop, a few tucked-away corners, and soft green spaces that gave us some relaxed, natural shots. This time away from the main party is often when the couple gets to pause and reflect, and it always shows in the photos.
Reception Fun and Peg Wars
The reception was held in the marquee, which was light-filled and beautifully styled. One of the most memorable parts of the day was a game guests played involving clothes pegs, the goal was to clip a peg onto someone without them noticing. Let's just say, no one was safe —including me. I ended up with more pegs than I’d like to admit but managed to get my revenge. It brought loads of laughs and kept the kids (and adults) entertained throughout the evening.
There was a photo booth, loads of food from the buffet, and a genuinely warm, celebratory atmosphere.
First Dance and Golden Hour Portraits
The first dance was a beautiful, emotional moment between Lizzie and Billy. Not long after, the bouquet toss took place and, like always, it brought out some real competitive energy. Think Olympic-level tension but with flowers. Just before the light faded, we stepped out for a few final portraits as the sun dropped behind the trees. The soft evening glow gave everything a romantic, golden finish.
A Farewell to Newland Hall
It’s sad to know that Newland Hall is closing its doors to weddings after many years. This 15th-century Tudor manor just outside Chelmsford has long been one of Essex’s most charming venues. With a historic house, a peaceful moat, landscaped lawns, and a spacious marquee, it’s been a favourite among couples looking for a setting that feels both grand and personal.
Lizzie and Billy’s wedding captured everything that made this place special. It was a relaxed day filled with laughter, connection, and some unforgettable moments.
